About this course
Anyone wishing to embark on a career as a Security Officer needs to be licenced by the SIA (Security Industry Authority). We provide the 3-day nationally approved course which enables individuals to gain the necessary qualification to become licenced.
This qualification applies to those working within retail (store detection, loss prevention), commercial, leisure, reception, gatehouse duties, mobile patrol and alarm response security officers. This is not for work in the licensed trade, for this you would need to complete the Door Supervisor qualification.
The following three modules are covered in the course:
- – Working in the Private Security Industry
- – Working as a Security Officer
- – Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry
What support material is available?
To assist you during the course you will be provided with a course workbook which will include the three required modules. The books are provided prior to the course.
How is it assessed?
Working in the Private Security Industry, Working as a Security Officer and Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry, are assessed by multiple choice examinations.
All exam questions are produced and marked by the awarding body.
This qualification, which is worth 4 credits at Level 2, is approved by the SIA.

IMPORTANT CHANGES AFFECTING SECURITY TRAINING
The Security Industry Authority, (SIA), is the governing body of the Private Security Industry.
One of its responsibilities is to set and approve standards of training, which includes training programmes.
The SIA has under-taken a review of the content for all SIA courses and as a result changes to these courses will come into effect from 1st April 2020.
We will publish new course dates via our website and other media platforms accordingly.
